After going through a bout of physical therapy for my shoulder, my PT recommended the Aeron chair. After finding a retail outlet an hour drive away, spending $900 and waiting a month for it to arrive, I had my chair.

I couldn't wait to sit in it. The floor model seemed fine on my back so I was good to go, right?

Not exactly. I adjusted the chair according to the instructions and video and settled in. Truth be told, it wasn't exactly comfortable, but my shoulder felt great in it.

Then after about 30 min, my legs began to tingle and go slightly numb. I tried re-adjusting the chair although it was already adjusted correctly. Nothing helped and it began to get painful where the lump on the end dug into my thighs. Finally I had to get out of the chair as it had become very uncomfortable. What was worse was that the semi-numbness and weakness in my legs lasted for 3 days.

I knew I couldn't sit in it again and I called Herman Miller to see if they had any advice. They confirmed that I had adjusted the chair correctly and acknowledged that "some people do have that problem with the Aeron....everyone's body is different."

Now for the clincher; "we have a no return policy." Any advice? "Yes, you could try one of our other chairs!"

OK, so I just paid $900, waited a month, have weakened legs, the company acknowledges that their chair does that to some people, they won't take it back, and they want me to buy a different Herman Miller chair!

Fortunately, the store where I purchased it first offered a store credit and then after firmness on my part offered a full refund if none of the other Herman Miller chairs in the store were acceptable. One felt "sort" of OK, but after my experience with the Aeron and my desire to not get stuck with a chair that the manufacturer wouldn't stand behind I decided to pass.

Clearly this chair works for many people. Just make sure that you aren't one of the ones that it is problematic for...I now know that there are lots of those folks out there as well and Herman Miller won't care about your problem.Herman miller posturefit

I ordered the herman miller posturefit model (with the butterfly pad near the wasteline). Recieved it two weeks ago. After sittig on it for two weeks, I have severe back ache now. Before buying, I tried it out in a local store (just a few minutes but not long enough) and felt very comfortable. Now, I feel very disappointed that I spent so much money only to hurt myself. I had a $150 chair which never gave me a back ache, though it wasn't very comfortable.

This posturefit model (I think it is their newer invention) doesn't suit as they are advertising. Now, I am trying to get that butterfly pad removed and a lumbar support installed on this which will cost me even more.

I called the authorized dealer I bought it from. Their initial response was that it is a custom made chair and it cannot be returned or exchanged. This is the first time, I have been told that I can't even return a product which is causing me injury. Then I called the Herman Miller head office and complained. They said they will contact the dealer and they are supposed to help out with it. Dealer recommended removing the posturefit pad and insert a lumber pad they will charge $55 for the pad and charge $100 for labor. Later (probably after the Main office contacted them), they called me and said if take the chair to their dealership, they will just charge for the lumber pad ($55) and no service fee. They removed the posturefit pad (I think it costs around $100 thru web sites) and kept it. Then inserted a lumber pad (charged me $55). Lumber pad is easy to slide it it.

Its a lot better for my back now. But that lumbar pad also isn't comfortable, as my back touches ony the top edge of the lumber pad. And it is very hard also and somewhat painful. This pad is not designed properly for comfort or proper contour so that your back will rest evenly on it.

Anyway, for the amount of money I spent, and the kind of support I received from them, also, the fact that product is not exchangeable or returnable, and the comfort from using the chair, I feel that it was not worth the investment.

I would rather buy a chair locally, make sure that it is returnable if it is not comfortable or at least exchangeable after using it for a minimum one day.

It might work out well for a lot of people, as the body structure is different for each person.

Also, ensure that you get the right size. I got a size A chair based on the recommendation by the salesperson at the store. When I sit, I feel like I am sitting at the edge of a chair with a narrow base. I should have had a size B.

The authorized dealer wouldn't let me even exchange it. I bought it from an authorized Herman miller dealership in Dallas (WorkPlace Resource, Carrollton, TX).

After buying something like this for a high price to help you with your back and posture, you realize that it makes the situation worse. To top it, you get an arrogant response from a dealership you purchased it from.

My recommendation is you should deal with a dealership who will let you at least exchange it if it is not working out for you or causes injury. This is true if you are buying it for home use or you are buying for your business.

I tried the isokinetics balance ball chair because of my sciatica issues. While that chair is useful, I find this one to be more comfortable. Balance ball chairs don't have any padding, which makes them unsuitable for me to sit on the entire day. I don't find the padding on this to be "paper thin" as another review said. It seems like a reasonable amount of padding to me. Very glad I bought this chair.This kind of chair has been around for YEARS

My father bought this style of chairs for his two secretaries and me about 20 years ago - we all loved them and they are very comfortable. I am so glad they still make this kind of chair!! I am going to get one for both work and home. I took a job about 4 years ago that requires me to sit at a computer for hours and hours. Now my upper back is starting to curve from poor posture.

I was looking for a durable, comfortable chair for my wife. My experience has been that office chairs from the office supply stores last about 2 years. I wanted something that would be a solid product, something that would last several years. Though the cost of the chair is about 5 times the amount of the average chair, I figured it was a worth a try.

I placed the order through and received a call about 4 days later from the vendor indicating that they were out of the color I ordered. We agreed upon green. When the chair arrived it was gray. Not a serious problem, but it seemed that after the phone call and conversation, they could have gotten that part right.

The chair is primarily a molded plastic, but it is built with much more thoughtfulness and engineering than a standard chair. I purchased the "basic" chair so there were few bells and whistles. My wife has been using it for more than a month and she says it's the most comfortable office chair she has ever used. The back is designed for good air flow and I can attest that it's easier to sit in this chair for extended periods than most other office chairs. I think the arm rests are a little short, but I think for most people that is a non-issue. It's probably not the chair for the office executive who likes to lord his authority over his minions. But for a SOHO environment, it's a very well made product.

Oh....I should mention that the chair arrived fully assembled. As you can imagine, the shipping box was rather large. Awesome Comfort

I'm trying to not sound like a Henry Miller fangirl but I'm really turning into one after purchasing my 2nd Mirra chair. My first one is just over a year old and it is every bit as comfortable and solid as it was a year ago. Out of the box, I was sitting in it within about a minute. It's that easy to assemble. I think this chair gets used about 70 hours a week and a year later it feels perfect. My second Mirra chair assembled just as easy and is in every way identical to the first. I priced/shopped and tested out chairs from local sources (Office Max etc etc) and I'm glad I made this choice. When you get to to this price range, you expect quality and this chair delivers 100%.

I bought this on sale and it's really lightweight and very comfortable. I never liked the chairs with the built in lumbar support, as I am short and the support always poked me in the back instead of supporting me. What's also great about the chair is that the seat is not very deep so the back of my knees don't bang up to the edge of the seat when my feet rests on the pedestal of the chair. I'm glad I found this chair on since I needed to replace my tattered high back office chair. I was unsure if I would miss having a high back chair with arms. However, I've loved the LoBack chair from the time I opened the box. It is well constructed and easy to assemble. I took another purchaser's advice and bought the chair from Target.com to save money.

This chair was purchased to replace an old, uncomfortable chair with no lumbar support. This chair is the exact opposite of the old chair. It is comfortable, great lumbar support, easy to put together, has all the right adjustments I need to make it fit perfectly. Only problem is it didn't come with instructions, which I think is the fault of the seller, and its really heavy. Other than that, it is a real high quality chair, I can sit in it for hours with no problems to my butt or lower back. Definitely recommend it.

I got the PostureFit Aeron chair for my office from , wrote a review on that one too and one can see my verified purchase.

The difference between this one, the adjustable frame and the PostureFit is that the PostureFit is adjustable in and out, giving you more or less lumbar support. And it costs a little more and the assembly of that mechanism is difficult. This one adjusts up and down, giving the same amount of lumbar support only you get to decide where it hits your back. PostureFit doesn't adjust up and down.

At first it was difficult to conceive spending this much on an office chair but after searching for the best price, considering also shipping and taxes, I made the mental adjustment. The more time goes by, the better I feel about the purchase. If you spend a lot of time sitting, you've got to think about long term back health, and this chair has a very decent 12-year warranty (let's hope the company stays in business).

The first thing you should do if you are prepared to buy this chair is go to a store and sit on the different sizes to be sure of your size. The B and C sizes cost the same right now both on and at most stores. I got the C because the B cuts off much shorter at the legs, the thighs, and B was too short for me by a good margin although I'm not especially tall. The B size cuts off shorter than those standard cheap office chairs you normally see, just to put it into perspective. At the same time, the C is quite wide - surprisingly so. I didn't need the wideness of the C but I needed the length of the seat so as not to cut off short for the legs. One can adjust the arms inward, among other arm adjustments, to compensate against the wideness of the C. If you are relatively short, the B size should work well. If you get a quote at the store and include taxes, I'm pretty confident it won't be competitive with this price even if you use a floor model price.

Assembly for this chair is supposed to be pretty easy. It might take 25 minutes, more or less.

The warranty is an important part of this purchase. I've talked with people that vouched for the fact that a service technician will come to your home or office to repair this chair as you go for a whole 12 years. Things happen that may cause you to get service. The mesh may tear and need replacement. A common thing, the guy in the store told me, is that the up-down mechanism may need to be fixed, and that is supposed to be an easy thing for the technician to fix. These chairs are designed to handle the weight of up to a 250 pound person. If you're heavier than that, you may need to get the above-mentioned part fixed but the warranty will cover it.

Finally, after covering decision points and information points, the chair feels good to sit on. It's the best I've ever experienced. I believe my productivity will go up as a result, and it's just a shame more employers don't pay for them considering that it is really a good investment in getting more out of an employee. I unfortunately had to pay for my Aeron myself. I love the chair and used my own money to get it for work as those cheap chairs we have aren't good for the back.

Great chair! Last company I worked for had a fleet of these. I never saw a broken one around the office in the 5 years I was there.

I'm a games programmer; 10 to 14 hours days are the norm -much of it spent in a chair exactly like this one. I'm 6' 2", 180 lbs, for reference. I've seen other (rare) reviews of this chair breaking, but I suspect those reviewers were much heavier than I. Most everyone in my office loved the chairs.

Many reclining chairs I hate because there's no configuring them. They either go too far or not enough. This chair allows you to set a stop, and then recline only that far.

I never thought much about the lubar support pad in the back until I sat in one that didn't have it -not so nice. Made the chair suddenly feel like a hammock. That pad does slide up and down so you can find your comfort zone.

I suppose the only down side was the adjustable arms tended to slide down over time. They have an adjustment screw that slides in a slot and that tightens down against the frame, but it will slip down if you lean on the arm too hard. I finally got mine so tight that it rarely slipped though. I suppose I could have fashioned small wooden sticks to slip into the bottom of the slot and fix the problem completely but I never got around to it.

I've heard rumors that this strech mesh fabric can put wear and tear on nice clothes. Sorry, can't comment on that. My environment was more t-shirt and jeans. We used to joke the only dress requirement was wearing shoes -not that we could ever get the artists to follow even that. lol

When I started looking to add one to my home office I nearly choked. I had no idea they were so expensive. I still want one. Glad to see the prices coming down some. In this economy, office furniture liquidators might even have them too.

I purchased this chair specifically to replace my old, worn out, non-ergonomic office chair. I also have occasional lower back pain and was hoping this chair would help. It had an affordable price and enough adjustments to suit my needs.

Pros:
The leather seat is comfortable. The seat adjustments are great to tilt the seat angle just to where I wanted it. The arm rest height adjustments worked fine, though the arm rests themselves seemed very wobbly.

Cons:
I tried the chair for about 3 weeks and found it to be lacking in most ways. The back seat "jiggles" left and right, as if not seated properly (and it was setup as good as the chair would allow me), and did nothing to help my back sit correctly. The left and right arm rests seem too close together, even at their widest setting. Trying to use the keyboard and mouse at the same time, while keeping the proper posture and arm placement was impossible for me. I had to place my right arm on the edge of the arm rest just to use the mouse, not a good thing. As others note, the assembly instructions are terrible. The chair itself had a terrible plastic funk as I un-boxed it, and still does even after 3 weeks.

Thankfully, as always, shines on it's return policy. I'm not sure if I got a broken chair, put it together wrong, or the chair is just junk. Either way it's going back to for a refund. I would recommend avoiding this chair and looking elsewhere.Mechanism slips

I bought this chair from Office Depot about 5 years ago. It has a very high back which is kind of nice if you want to lean your head back but it looks too tall. Overall its pretty comfortable. My biggest complaint is that the adjustment that controls the front/back tilt does not hold the chair securily. Every time you scoot the chair or lean a bit forward the mechanism slips and you end end up having to tilt it back again.

I've used the Herman Miller Aeron chairs for years at work. I love them. They are as comfortable as high quality leather chairs, but the mesh prevents the chair from building up heat as leather tends to do.
The only downside to this chair is that it's the Basic model. It lacks adjustability. It raises and lowers, but that's it. No lumbar adjustment, no arm rest adjustment, etc.
If you want a comfortable chair, get this one. If you have back problems and need adjustability, get the other one.
