2010-03-21
I've used them for about a month now and they are all still working well. They produce a lot of light and light up relatively quick. the only problem I had with them is that they are rather large compared to the incadescent bulbs they replaced and some of the smaller mini-spirals available today and they didn't fit well in hardly any of my fixtures. Luckily, they are all open fixtures and the only annoyance I had was that they stuck out a little bit. Energy savings? Yes, while they last
2010-02-18
I bought two 8-packs at my shopping club a couple of years ago. I needed them to replace 8 incandescent bulbs in the basement where, with the exception of the area where my home office is located, I didn't need very bright lights. The second carton was bought for 'spares' and because they were on sale at the time I made the purchase. Two years later, the spares carton has 3 bulbs left, indicating that 5 out of 8 have burned out. This tells me that the 5-years/8000 hours life expectancy claim is wildly optimistic, to use a mild term.
My personal experience with these bulbs is as follows:
- the light they produce - yellow, not very bright is more or less on par with what you get of a 60W incandescent, maybe a little less than a traditional 60W.
- they do save energy for as long as they last - given their short lifespan in my basement, not sure if they pay for themselves
- quality seems to be an issue - 5 out of 8 burned out before 2 years - all 8 subjected to about the same conditions (they all go on/off at the same time
- the claim of 8000 hours or 5 years life expectancy is clearly way off-base - perhaps GE should make their test data available
- the price at the time I am writing this review is competitive with what I saw at my shopping club.
This may come close to comparing apples to oranges but I must say that I am very happy with the Feit Electric ESL40TN/D 42-Watt Compact Fluorescent High-Wattage Bulb, Daylight of which I am using 2 in the same basement, in my 'office' area and I bought 2 more a few months ago for the study. I paid a premium for them and I've only used them for a little less than one year at the time I write this (Feb. 2010) so the fact that none has burned out yet is not 'proof' but... time with tell.
I hesitate between 2 and 3 stars - 2 stars means 'I don't like it' vs. 3 stars meaning 'it's okay'. My generous nature wins this time and it's 3 stars but GE needs to seriously look into the 'quality' thing or these CFL may discourage some people from adopting replacing their incandescent bulbs with the more efficient fluorescents.

GREAT Book Light!!!
2008-03-26
This is the BEST little book light I've ever owned. It weighs next to nothing, does not tear the pages of the book, and is small enough (approximately credit card size, though somewhat thicker). I use it at home, work, and especially while traveling. You will NOT be disappointed!!! Okay light
2007-09-06
The light is uneven and only covers one page so that you have to keep moving it from one side of your book to the other. However, it is small and lightweight.

GE 50723 LED Motion Sensing Night Light
 · Binding: Electronics · Brand: General Electric · Color: White · EAN: 0043180504104 · Feature: Light automatically activates when motion is detected in dark room | Light turns off 60 seconds after last detected motion | No bulbs to replace | Long Lasting LED | Non-polarized plug · Label: GE · Manufacturer: GE · Model: 50723 · MPN: 50723 · Package Quantity: 4 · Product Group: Home Improvement · Product Type Name: ABIS_HOME_IMPROVEMENT · Publisher: GE · Studio: GE · UPC: 043180504104 » This motion sensing night light turns On automatically when motion is detected. The night light includes a safety back so the lamp cannot be touched during operation. The light will turn Off 60 seconds after the last detected movement and will not turn On Good Function
2010-03-19
This light goes on when you are about 10' away, isn't too bright at night, goes off shortly after it now longer detects motion. We have it in our bathroom in a plug beneath the window. Once the sun is fully up it stays off. If it were in a dark hall, it might go on during the day.Good design but 2 out of 5 ordered stopped working within 1 week
2010-02-04
I like this product very much, however only 3 out of the 5 that I recieved are still working, they have a limited lifetime warranty so I will be sending 2 back to the manufacturer for replacements.
Even so, I would buy again because it is a great product, but it is a sad fact that their quality control is terrible, at least for the batch of nightlights I bought, (40% failure rate in the 1st week). Like most small electronics these days, they are not made in this country, however that is no longer a good excuse for poor quality control.

Lighting for portraits
2009-03-11
So I needed to scrap together a light set up from whatever I could find at the local hardware store to make a couple portraits. Picked these up because they were "Full Spectrum." I was a bit worried at first because the lights were on the warm side compared to true daylight (light temperature is somewhere around 3000K, I used 3300k for warmer skin tones). When combined with a dimmer switch, they tend to go more yellow at lower intensities but I assume this is the same for all incadescent lamps. When I reviewed the photos, these lights really do, as advertised, make colors "pop." These lights provide good color saturation and contrast compared to normal incandescent lights and even compared to my flash unit.
As an every day light, I prefer flourescents for energy efficiency. But as an incandescent, I see how these could be pleasant once your eyes adjust to the light warmth in the color. If you are looking for a "full spectrum" flourescent, they do exist, just a bit hard to find at your local hardware store.
While not true "daylight," these lights do help bring out colors and are what I would use if I used incandescent lights.
Daylight ~5600k
Incandescent ~2700k
GE Reveal ~3000k
They're light bulbs. They light up.
2009-01-26
Not much to say. They light up. I tend not to use incandescent bulbs any more, but these are nicely daylight balanced, and work well in the Easy Bake Oven where they are used.

These bulbs are not as bright as they claim. After switching to all CFLs I noticed right away that they were dim. This is compounded over time. My CFLs lost approximately 50% percent of their brightness in the first month. Before anyone questions this I should make you aware that this is the way fluorescent light bulb go out, they dim over time.
I have done research and found out the following:
1. Manufactures are overestimating the brightness of the bulbs.
2. Bulbs are approximately 50% dimmer then Incandescent equivalents.
EX: Incandescent 60W - 126 lux (126 lumen/square meter) CFL 12W ( 60W equivalent) - 77 lux (77 lumen/square meter) as measured by a light meter.
Don't get me wrong. I liked the idea of CFLs, longer life, lower electrical bills, and even though I am no tree hugger they are supposedly better for the environment.
But I now find myself buying more lamps to try to make the room bright enough to read. Does it really save energy if I replace one incandescent bulb with 10 CFLs?
Lets do the math.
1 x 60W bulb = 60W
10 x 13W CFL = 130WGeneral Electric 97659 13-Watt (60 Watt equivalent) Energy Smart Soft White Spiral T3 Light Bulb 6-Pack

Great light from little bulbs. They cost a little more, but are well worth the price.

This is a great nightlight. It's not too bright, it's an LED that is off unless it's dark. The light changes color and the aquarium is nice. It was well worth spending a little more and getting a premium product.

These save you money that's not a joke they really do work. I have changed all mine to these in my house and can see a price drop on my electric bill and they last longer. Nice but don't last long.
2009-11-05
The seller was great but the bulbs left something to be desired.
I got them around September 4th 2009 and here it is November 4th 2009 and half of the bulbs are dead.
The package says they are 5 year bulb's well if so that 5 years just blew by.
I contacted GE about this but don't expect to hear anything back from them.
I would say stay away from these GE CF bulbs.

They don't work with light dimmers which we have in all rooms. Also don't work with three way lamps. Useless!!Lousy quality

Have had to take back two of these bulbs -- the first one made a popping sound a few days after placement and went out on all three settings, the other only worked on the middle setting. I purchased these at Target, but will go to Home Depot to look for a better option.

When our dog turned the lamp over, I figured it would be a simple bulb replacement. It turned out that we couldn't find the bulb at any hardware stores near our home. The search on was great because it popped right up. The bulb came and it worked. Too bad when the lamp fell over that it messed up the switch that turns it on!!Color temperature too blue
2009-02-17
While the bulb works fine, the color temperature is way off (5000K?). The light output is bright, but it's too blue for use indoors. The original GE bulb had a much warmer color to it (about 2700K). Beware you are not getting a genuine GE light bulb here.
You get what you pay for.

Second hand sweep. 2 3/4" wide. 2" wide face. 3/4" deep. Wonderful Clock and no problems with battery cover
2010-03-20
I saw this little plug-in clock at my health club and loved the look of it, but I was a little unsure about it after reading the reviews here on regarding the difficulty with the battery cover. I ordered two anyway, and was really pleased to see that GE has apparently fixed the problem with the battery cover that other reviewers have noted. When you first get the clock, you have to open the battery compartment to remove a little tab so that the battery (and therefore the clock) will work. I could easily open the battery cover with my fingernail and twist it right back into place - a 20 second task at the most. I love the size and glow of this clock; it's easy to read at night and gives out just the right amount of a nightlight. Some other reviewers have noted that you can hear the clock tick and feel that it's too loud. I can hear it tick but I don't find it very loud at all - I think this would only be a bother if you're really sensitive and it's very close to your bed.
Overall I love this little clock and may get more; and I can see how this would make a great gift.good nite-lite
2010-03-10
Does the job. I really like the night light. Have had no problems with it. The only thing is it ticks loudly but it has nothing to do with how well it works. I've had not problems with the battery cover as others have mentioned. Pretty simple to do.
